Expectations for this team are high. We are a competitive organization and not a drop in, therefore we require a good deal of effort both on and off the river.
If you don’t believe in these principles, then this team is not for you!
- We expect our team to always be respectful of other teams and officials.
We have been at the bottom of the heap, and it’s no fun to hear the better teams pound their chest and brag. - We encourage our teams to help out the newer teams whenever possible. It will help build the sport, and at the same time it will build our reputation as leaders in the Manitoba Dragon Boat community.
- We have to be mindful of what we say when we can be overheard by other people. Hurtful comments or sarcastic remarks have to be controlled because we are one of the highest profile teams in the province, and we want to be looked at as a class organization. It’s all about common courtesy, respect and common sense.
- All team members are expected to attend as many practices as possible.
Competitive boat will have approx 20-25 practices, with the rec team having 3. Rec team members are welcome to fill the boat during competitive team practices if they want more river time. - Team members are expected to attend other Dragon Boat functions / fundraisers.
- Team members are required to inform the captain ASAP if they cannot attend a practice.
- Team members are expected to observe a “no drink” rule, where alcohol cannot be consumed prior to any racing for that day.
- Team members are required to dedicate entire weekends to the competition, not coming and going as they please.
- Team members are required to sell tickets to, and attend our own fundraiser(s), kickoff nights, etc.
- Team members are responsible for 4 tickets minimum for our fundraiser(s). Whether they are sold or given away, the crew member must pay for 4 tickets (we buy our own tickets)
- Team members are asked to volunteer some time during FMG practice times to help run docks, wrangle teams, etc.
- Team members are required to help out running the Paddler’s Village during the FMG competition.
- Registration fees are $25 per paddler, with an additional $10 per paddler as a “fundraiser fee”. Monies to be used to purchase big ticket items for silent auction(s).
As always, nobody is guarenteed a spot in the boat for a competition. We are working with a limited number of spots in the boat, and a 25 person roster that we can work with for competitions. Roster decisions are made by the captain prior to competitions. Attendance at practices and Dragon Boat events, as well as attitude, helps determine who paddles. We try to rotate everybody on the roster in for at least 1 heat during the competitions, but it’s not a given that will happen.
If a team member must leave the team for whatever reason prior to our first competition, all fees will be refunded in full.
