This team has been competing in Dragon Boat since the sport’s Manitoba birth some 13 years or so ago.
Starting as a boat sponsored by advertising firm “Gallop and Gallop”, the boat was comprised of first year paddlers from “Special Olympics Manitoba” coaches and staff, and officers from the “Manitoba Torch Run” through the Winnipeg Police Service.
It was a pleasure that first year to watch the very experienced, out of town crew “Husky Oil Reservoir Dogs” blow the doors off the other teams. It gave us an idea of what could be accomplished with hard work once we started to understand the sport better.
Throughout the years, we honed our skills on the water, and were lucky enough to become associated with our present Uber sponsor, “Boogies Diner and Sports Lounge”, who have treated us as well as any sponsor could. (Thanks Derek)
We have had much success in our years of paddling and have made many good contacts, and more importantly, we have made some very good friends through the sport of Dragon Boating.
We are 2 time “Champion of Champions” trophy winners, we have numerous 2nd and 3rd place awards and are proud to say we have won the “George Jarvis” Sportsmanship award twice at the FMG competitions throughout the years. No other team can claim the “George Jarvis” trophy twice, and we take that very seriously.
We even have a champion “Drummer award” proudly displayed in the trophy case at Boogie’s!
Draggin’ Butt has worked very hard to establish a respected reputation within Manitoba’s Dragon Boat community, and we try to help out other teams with their events whenever possible.
We pride ourselves on recruiting quality people, who will paddle like warriors, and represent our sponsor, our teammates, and the sport of Dragon Boating with class and dignity while still having a rip-roaring good time.
